What we do

Newark Plumbing Co handles residential and light commercial plumbing across Newark, Delaware and the surrounding New Castle County communities, plus nearby Cecil County, Maryland. Emergency repairs, drain and sewer work, water heaters, repiping, sump pumps, and well and water treatment systems for the properties north and west of town that are not on public supply.

How we price work

Diagnosis first, price second, work third — in that order, every time.

This matters more than it sounds. The common pattern in this trade is a low number on the phone, followed by a revision once someone is standing in your basement. It works because by then you have already waited, already taken time off, and are unlikely to start over with someone else. We think that is a bad way to treat people, and it is also a bad way to build a business that depends on being called twice.

So: we come out, we find the actual cause, and we give you a fixed price before any work begins. If what we find changes the job, you hear it before we proceed. Our pricing page publishes typical ranges for this area so you can sanity-check any quote — including ours.

When we tell you not to hire us

There are jobs we will talk you out of.

• Repairs that will not hold. Patching one section of badly corroded galvanized steel usually just moves the failure a few feet along. If that is your situation we will say so, even though the repair is the easier sale.
• Work you can genuinely do yourself. A flapper valve, a supply line, a pop-up drain. If it is a ten-minute fix and you are willing, we will tell you how rather than charge a call-out for it.
• Equipment you do not need. Water treatment gets sold hard in this area. Sizing should come from an actual water test, not from a script — and on City of Newark supply the answer is often that you do not need much.
• Emergencies that are not emergencies. If shutting a valve makes it safe until morning, that is what we will tell you, and it will cost you less.

Why local knowledge is not a slogan here

Newark is unusually varied for a city its size, and a national franchise template does not survive contact with it.

• Two geologies. The Piedmont–Coastal Plain boundary runs through the area. Shallow soil over rock on one side, deeper sediment on the other. It is why basement water behaves differently a few miles apart.
• A pre-1960s core. The streets around Main Street and the University of Delaware run cast iron drains and galvanized supply. Both fail from the inside out, on a timeline you can nearly predict.
• Four water suppliers and three wastewater arrangements within a short drive, including private wells and septic systems toward Hockessin and Pike Creek.
• State inspection, not city. Newark plumbing permits are inspected by a State of Delaware Plumbing Inspector. Knowing how that schedule works is the difference between a job that closes out and one that stalls.
• A state line nine miles away. Cross into Elkton and you are under Maryland code with a different permit authority.
• A 32-inch frost depth. Buried service lines sit below it, so a frozen pipe in Newark is almost always an exposed run — crawl space, garage wall, or an undrained hose bibb.
